Energy Entrepreneurs Call for Ministerial Change Over Gas Sector

“Coalition of Private Energy Entrepreneurs Demands Immediate Change in Gas Sector Leadership’

In an urgent plea to President Bola Tinubu, the Coalition of Private Energy Entrepreneurs has called for the immediate replacement of the current Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Mr. Ekperikpe Ekpo

The coalition, representing key stakeholders in the energy sector, has voiced significant dissatisfaction with the minister’s performance, citing regulatory inefficiencies, poor resource allocation, lack of transparency, and sluggish policy implementation as major concerns.

The coalition’s statement highlights the detrimental impact of prolonged approval processes and unclear regulatory guidelines on innovation and expansion within the private energy sector. Additionally, the inequitable distribution of gas resources, which appears to favor certain entities without due process, has further stifled competition and discouraged investment.

Transparency issues are also at the forefront of the coalition’s grievances. The ministry’s opaque decision-making processes have eroded trust among private sector stakeholders, hindering effective collaboration and accountability. The coalition asserts that the minister’s lack of urgency and competence in implementing critical policies is detrimental to the sector’s progress and the nation’s energy security.

Greg Akume, President of the Coalition of Private Energy Entrepreneurs, emphasized the need for a leader who comprehends the complexities of the energy market and values the private sector’s contributions. “With the right leadership, the private energy sector can significantly contribute to the government’s objectives of achieving energy security, economic diversification, and sustainable development,” Akume stated.

The coalition remains hopeful that President Tinubu will act swiftly to address their concerns and appoint a new minister who can foster an environment that supports innovation, efficiency, and growth in the energy sector.
