NLC, TUC Members’ Airport Protest Causes Traffic Chaos in Abuja

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) orchestrated a protest at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Thursday, prompting chaos and halting normal airport operations.

At approximately 8:58 a.m., members of the NLC and TUC converged at the airport, adhering to their directive for aviation sector members to halt all flights to Owerri, Imo State’s capital.

This protest is part of a broader strategy announced by the labour unions targeting Imo State, following the recent attack on NLC President Joe Ajaero.

The organized procession commenced as workers filed out in a convoy bound for the airport, subsequently blockading both entry and exit points of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

The protesters’ attempt to gain access was thwarted by military personnel at the checkpoint. Subsequently, the demonstrators barricaded the airport’s entrance and exit, leading to a substantial build-up of vehicles on both sides and compelling travelers to proceed on foot to access the airport facilities.
