Ex-minister slams female ministers’ dress code in Tinubu’s cabinet

Shittu Calls for Greater Seriousness in Government Functionaries

In a recent interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today, former Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, expressed his concerns about the attire of female ministers in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet, likening their dress style to that of beauty pageant contestants.

Shittu, who served under former President Muhammadu Buhari from 2015 to 2019, made these remarks in response to President Tinubu’s address to ministers during a three-day retreat.

During the retreat’s opening, President Tinubu warned that ministers failing to perform in their roles would be relieved of their duties. In response to this, Shittu stated, “I’m happy that President Tinubu appointed a number of female ministers, but my impression whenever I see them on television is as if they are going to beauty competitions based on the type of dresses they wear.” He went on to emphasize the importance of all ministers demonstrating their seriousness in handling the responsibilities of governance.

Shittu’s comments have sparked discussions about the image and professionalism of government officials in the current administration.
