PDP Governors commend Tinubu’s peace mediation in Rivers’ crisis

PDP Governors Applaud Tinubu’s Mediation Plead for Peace in Rivers Crisis

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum expressed deep appreciation for President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in the ongoing crisis in Rivers State.

Following a convened assembly at the Oyo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, chaired by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, a communique was released, underscoring the governors’ concern over the recent tumult in Rivers State and praising President Tinubu’s involvement to ease the tensions.

“The PDP Governors were alarmed at the recent developments in Rivers State and welcome the intervention of Mr. President to bring the crises to an end,” stated the communique, signed by Chairman Bala Mohammed.

The forum’s stance focused on urging all parties entangled in the Rivers State crisis to adopt peaceful means of resolution. They extended an offer to use their platform in order to facilitate a swift and equitable resolution of the unfolding issues.

The meeting occurred in the aftermath of an attempted impeachment of Governor Sim Fubara in Rivers State, resulting in the emergence of a factional speaker within the State House of Assembly. Moreover, the leader of the House, Edison Ehie, faced removal over his alleged involvement in the recent fire incident at the Assembly complex.

President Tinubu took a proactive step in addressing the conflict by convening a meeting with Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who presently serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Meanwhile, Wike, during a meeting with a South-South leaders’ delegation in Abuja, assured that the PDP was committed to resolving the matter amicably.

Echoing this sentiment, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP urged a cessation of hostilities and an amicable resolution. Party spokesman Debo Ologunagba affirmed the commencement of internal conflict resolution mechanisms to address the discrepancies.

“The NWC therefore charges all leaders, critical stakeholders, and members of our great Party in Rivers State to close ranks, unite, and focus on the onerous task of governance and delivery of dividends of democracy to the people,” emphasized Ologunagba.

The Governors’ Forum’s support for Tinubu’s involvement signals a step towards reconciliation in the Rivers crisis, emphasizing the need for peace and unity to ensure the effective governance and welfare of the state’s citizens.
