Nigeria Mobilizes 6,315 Fresh Troops to Combat Escalating Security Concerns
Nigeria, like several nations in the West African region, grapples with a myriad of security threats originating from entities such as Boko Haram insurgents, bandits, kidnappers, secessionist groups, and other criminal factions.
In response to these pressing challenges, the Nigerian Army has taken a significant stride by enlisting and deploying 6,315 new soldiers. This recruitment drive is part of the continuous endeavor to reinforce the manpower of the Nigerian military and confront the security dilemmas plaguing the nation.
During the graduation ceremony of the 85th Regular Intake recruits at the Nigerian Army Depot in Zaria, Kaduna State, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, underscored the pivotal role these new inductees will assume. They are anticipated to augment the military’s strength, providing a proficient and battle-ready force to counter the multifaceted security risks that the country currently faces.
General Lagbaja stressed that the enlistment of 6,315 soldiers constitutes a substantial stride in bridging the recognized gaps in the army’s capabilities in the struggle against diverse security challenges nationwide. He provided assurance to law-abiding citizens that they can anticipate a restoration of stability and a more tranquil environment in the upcoming period, facilitating their lawful activities.
The security threats that the newly recruited soldiers will confront are extensive, encompassing insurgency in the North-east, banditry, and cattle rustling in the North-west, clashes between farmers and herders in the North-central, secessionist demands and cult activities in the South-east, militancy, and the sabotage of national assets in the South-south, among others.
General Lagbaja also urged the leadership of the Nigerian Army Depot to persistently enhance training methods and align them with evolving demands in the field. He reiterated the dedication of the Nigerian Army Headquarters to bolstering the training objectives of the institution by supplying the requisite facilities and equipment.
In his address to the new soldiers, Lieutenant General Lagbaja underscored the significance of loyalty, professionalism, and discipline, especially at a time when the nation grapples with an array of security issues. He reminded them that high expectations accompany their entry into the Armed Forces.
