Tinubu appoints Ola Olukoyede as the New EFCC Chairman

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mr. Ola Olukoyede as the new Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), for a renewable four-year term.

This decision, pending Senate confirmation, follows the suspension of former agency chief, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa, nearly four months ago.

According to a statement signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, read on Thursday, “Mr. Olukoyede’s appointment follows the resignation of the suspended Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa,” the statement read.

Mr. Olukoyede, a lawyer with over 22 years of experience, specializes in regulatory compliance and fraud management. His extensive background in the EFCC includes serving as Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman (2016-2018) and as Secretary to the Commission (2018-2023), meeting the statutory requirement for the Chairman position.

President Tinubu has also appointed Mr. Muhammad Hammajoda as the Secretary of the EFCC for a renewable five-year term, subject to Senate confirmation. Hammajoda is a public administrator with a background in public finance management and holds degrees in Accounting and Business Administration.

The President emphasized the importance of the new leadership’s role in the fight against corruption, which remains a central pillar of the President’s Renewed Hope agenda. The anti-corruption sector is undergoing reform, and these appointments are a significant step in that direction.
