Senate Refutes Impeachment Rumors

Senate Refutes Rumors of Imminent Impeachment of Akpabio, Calls for National Unity
In a resounding rebuttal, the Nigerian Senate has denied the swirling rumors within certain circles that suggest a clandestine plan to impeach the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.
The Senate has firmly branded these claims as nothing more than a concocted tale and appealed for an atmosphere of tranquility as they embark on their national duties in the service of advancing the Nigerian project.
Issuing a statement on  Saturday, Yemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Publicity and a member of the APC representing Ekiti South, articulated the Senate’s stance on the matter.
He asserted, “Our attention has just been drawn to a syndicated satanic verses in a section of the media, of purported and illusory plots of leadership change in the Senate.”
Adaramodu went on to underline the unity and fraternity that binds the Nigerian Senate as one cohesive family. He dismissed the imaginative and fictitious nature of the claims, comparing them to the debunked story of legislators purportedly receiving 100 million Naira each.
The 10th Senate, led by Senator Godswill Akpabio, has been diligent in executing its legislative and constitutional duties. In under 60 legislative days, it has achieved significant milestones, including the passage of crucial bills and motions, the screening and confirmation of Service Chiefs and Ministers, and crucial oversight functions.
Adaramodu cautioned against the activities of what he described as “fifth columnists” operating outside the Senate who aim to sow discord through media sensationalism, potentially undermining Nigeria’s democratic progress.
He urged these actors to exercise restraint and allow the Senate the breathing space it needs to focus on its national assignments for the betterment of the Nigerian nation.
Additionally, he called upon the media to be discerning in their reporting and avoid being used as tools by those who spread fake and damaging news.
The Senate’s message is clear: they remain united, resolute, and committed to their constitutional responsibilities, and they implore all stakeholders to rally together for the collective advancement of Nigeria.
