Peter Obi Donates N50 Million to Boost Healthcare at Anglican Church

In a notable gesture of philanthropy, Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the February 25 election, has extended his support to the Anglican Diocese of Awka by donating a substantial sum of N50 million. 

The generous contribution was made during the foundation laying ceremony of the Department of Midwifery and Public Health Nursing at the Millennium College of Nursing Sciences, an institution owned by the Awka Anglican Communion.

 

Mr. Obi, well-known for his philanthropic endeavors since his tenure as the governor of Anambra State, has consistently demonstrated his commitment to bolstering critical sectors of society.

With this latest donation, he has reiterated his dedication to seeing the project through to its completion. Notably, he previously donated N40 million to the Faith Specialist Hospital, where the College is located, bringing his total contributions to N90 million for the development of healthcare facilities in the region.

Mr. Obi emphasized that his motivation for such contributions lies in his belief that healthcare is a fundamental developmental need for any society.

He called upon Nigerians to support institutions like the Church in their efforts to enhance crucial areas, underscoring that the benefits of these facilities extend to the entire populace of the state. Furthermore, he pledged to remain committed to the project and expressed his intent to leverage his connections to secure additional funding from his associates.

The Anglican Bishop of Awka and the Archbishop of Niger Province, Most Rev’d Dr. Alexander Ibezim, lauded Mr. Obi for his consistent dedication to the welfare of the masses. He pointed to Mr. Obi’s past achievements in Anambra State, including the return of schools to the church and substantial financial support for education and healthcare, as exemplary actions that other leaders should emulate when truly committed to serving the people.

Dr. Ibezim also highlighted the transformative impact of Mr. Obi’s investments in education and healthcare during his governorship, which significantly improved these vital sectors in the state.

Former Commissioner and Chief of Staff, Prof. Stella Okunna, who now serves as the deputy Vice Chancellor of Paul University, Awka, commended the church for its commitment to initiatives that benefit society.

She recalled that during Mr. Obi’s leadership, his vision aligned with global development goals, resulting in a complete revitalization of the healthcare sector in Anambra State.

Accredited health institutions, hospitals, and schools of nursing and midwifery emerged due to Mr. Obi’s partnership with the church.

Mrs. Chisom Ezulike, the provost of the school, expressed her heartfelt appreciation for Mr. Obi’s generosity. She was deeply moved when he provided her with his contact information, encouraging open communication to address challenges and advance the institution’s goals.
