Lagos State Government Launches Blue Line Rail Mass Transit

In a historic moment, the Lagos State Government inaugurated the long-awaited Blue Line Rail Mass Transit project, a concept that dates back to 1983.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led the inaugural train ride from Marina to Mile 2, officially kicking off the project.

The “cowry card” will serve as the primary payment method for the Blue Line Rail, similar to the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system.
A safety warning urges residents to avoid crossing the electrified tracks and use overhead bridges provided by the government.
The first phase of the 13-kilometer rail line, from Marina to Mile 2, includes five stations and is part of a larger 27-kilometer vision that will transport an estimated 500,000 passengers daily.
Full commercial operations are set to begin on September 4, following extensive testing.
The Blue Line Rail project faced challenges and delays but materialized through international collaboration with the China Civil Engineering Construction Company.
This initiative aligns with Governor Sanwo-Olu’s plan to combat traffic congestion and improve Lagos transportation. It promises a brighter future for residents and visitors alike.
