KEYAMO’S AVIATION CHANGES

FG to close down Murtala Muhammed Airport from October 1

Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has issued a directive for all international airlines and companies to leave Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) by October 1, 2023.

This announcement was made during Keyamo’s inspection of the Lagos airport. The directive extends to airlines and companies within the airport, who are now required to relocate to the newly established MMIA Terminal 2.

Moreover, Keyamo has also suspended all ongoing contracts, projects, and concessions in the aviation sector.

Keyamo emphasized the urgency of the situation by stating, “All airlines should move out of MMIA and shift to MMIA Terminal 2 before October 1.”

In a similarly move, Keyamo has put a stop to the Nigeria Air project, which was initiated by former President Muhammadu Buhari. This decision has led to speculation regarding a shift in the government’s priorities.

Additionally, Keyamo has paused arrangements made by his predecessor, Hadi Sirika, in order to conduct a thorough audit of contracts in the aviation industry.

Keyamo affirmed, “I have a responsibility to the federal government (FG) and Nigerians to provide a truthful evaluation.”
