In a significant development, Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji- Ojo held a strategic meetings with key officials at the helm of the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Nigerian Correctional Service to address pressing challenges faced by these institutions.

Present at the meeting were Adepoju Carol Wura-Ola, the Acting Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, and Haliru Nababa, the Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service.

Recognizing the roles of these two agencies in safeguarding the sovereignty of the nation, the participants underscored the critical importance of effectively addressing their respective challenges. The officials expressed a shared vision to propel the nation towards a trajectory of growth and development through strategic interventions and collaborative efforts.

A key concern raised during the meeting was the lengthy queues endured by citizens applying for international passports. Minister Tunji-Ojo highlighted the urgency of embracing cutting-edge technology to streamline the passport issuance process, aiming to eliminate the existing bottlenecks.

Another crucial aspect discussed centered around the role of correctional facilities in the justice system. The officials maintained that these institutions should primarily serve as centers of rehabilitation rather than spaces of condemnation. Mr Tunji-Ojo, reiterated the collective determination to uphold President Tinubu’s directives. He stated, “On these directives, we stand and move; collectively, we will deliver!”
