Wike Approves Demolition Plan

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike Greenlights Demolition of 6,000 Buildings in 30 Districts of Abuja
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory,  Nyesom Wike, has given the green light for the demolition of 6,000 buildings across 30 districts within Abuja.
The decision was announced by the Federal Capital Territory Authority (FCTA) following a comprehensive survey of 30 slums that had been identified earlier.
Wike, who recently assumed office, made it clear during his inauguration on Monday that his administration is resolute in its commitment to rectify the distortion of the city’s master plan caused by illegal structures. He vowed to eliminate all unauthorized buildings and bring an end to land speculations in the city.
Having personally inspected the Federal Capital Territory at night, the FCT minister expressed dismay at the encroachment of illegal structures into green areas of Abuja. He asserted that these structures would be removed to reclaim the land for legitimate development purposes.
“The Federal Government is prepared to reclaim our land and allocate it to those who are committed to development, under the condition that they adhere to specified timelines for development,” Wike declared.
The Director of the FCTA Department of Development Control, Muktar Galadima, affirmed that a fresh survey will be conducted to accurately identify the structures designated for demolition. The previous survey, conducted in February 2022, will be updated to ensure precise targeting of the buildings.
