UNION LEADERS DISAGREE WITH FG PALLIATIVES

NLC, TUC Question FG’s N5 Billion Palliative for Fuel Subsidy Removal

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have questioned the Federal Government’s decision to allocate N5 billion to each state and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as palliative measures in response to fuel subsidy removal.

The NLC President, Joe Ajaero, said the amount is too small and will not be effective in alleviating the suffering of the poor. He also expressed doubts about the ability of the governors to fairly distribute the assistance.

The TUC Deputy National President, Tommy Etim, echoed these sentiments, calling for transparency and accountability in the distribution of the relief packages.

The government has said that the N5 billion will be used to purchase essential grains and supply each state with five trucks of rice. However, the NLC and TUC have argued that this is not enough to help the millions of Nigerians who are struggling to make ends meet.

The two unions have called on the government to come up with more comprehensive measures to cushion the impact of fuel subsidy removal.
