– Concerns grow over Tinubu’s economic and governance acumen as experts predict severe poverty rates”

In a stark reminder that Nigeria extends far beyond the bounds of Lagos State, political analysts and experts have been vocal about their skepticism regarding Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership capabilities.

Despite his success in Lagos politics, many question his readiness to tackle the broader challenges that the entire nation faces.

Tinubu, a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, has garnered considerable support in the past, particularly within Lagos State. However, critics contend that his limited understanding of economics, finance, governance, and politics on a national scale could lead to dire consequences for the country.

Comparisons have been drawn to a novice chess player or even a reckless swordsman, suggesting that his lack of insight could have grave implications for the population.

Widening the lens to encompass Nigeria’s future, experts express growing concern about the potential impact of Tinubu’s leadership. With a projected rule of 48 months, apprehension looms large as Nigerians grapple with a bleak forecast. A chilling prediction indicates that if the current level of hardship witnessed in the first two months of his tenure persists, it raises questions about the potential suffering the nation could face at its median.

In an alarming revelation, experts have predicted that by December 31st, 2023, a staggering 92% of Nigerians could be classified as multidimensionally poor. The consequences of such widespread poverty are dire, with only 8% of the population expected to enter 2024 with access to basic necessities like food, shelter, and clothing.

This grim forecast translates into a stark reality on the ground: out of every 100 households, a mere 8 will have the privilege of cooking a meal on the eve of the New Year. For the remaining 98%, the prospect of parting with their homes and vehicles to secure a meal looms as they join the ranks of the poverty-stricken.

Dr.Sulaiman Sule, author of this commentary, a senior lecturer of mathematics of finance in the University of Swaziland, Kingdom of Eswantini underscores the gravity of the situation, urging the public to comprehend the implications of such a scenario.

As Nigeria navigates through uncertain times, the call to carefully consider leadership choices takes on newfound urgency. With the nation’s future at stake, experts and concerned citizens alike are left pondering whether Tinubu’s leadership could lead to a catastrophic outcome for the majority of Nigerians.
