FUEL SUBSIDY: BORNO GOVERNOR DISTRIBUTES PALLIATIVE

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has initiated a fresh phase of palliatives to aid those affected by the fuel subsidy removal.

The distribution aims to target approximately 1.8 million vulnerable individuals across 300,000 households in need. The distribution was launched at Muna IDPs camp in Jere Local Government Area on August 1st.

Governor Zulum stated that the palliative initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s food security emergency declaration, aiming to alleviate the hardships caused by the fuel subsidy removal. Each eligible beneficiary will receive N5,000 cash, a bag of rice, a bag of beans, and one wrapper for women.

Emphasizing his administration’s commitment to the welfare of the people, Governor Zulum urged citizens to support President Tinubu’s administration, acknowledging that the initial impact of the subsidy removal might be adverse but will be beneficial in the long run.

Furthermore, as part of his efforts to support vulnerable IDPs, Governor Zulum allotted 400 houses to displaced individuals from five communities affected by Boko Haram insurgents. These houses are situated in a resettlement estate constructed by the Borno State Ministry of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement. Along with the housing allocation, the governor provided rice, maize grain, mats, wrappers, and cash support to the 400 households.

Despite facing insurgency for over a decade, recent military successes have enabled the return of more than one million displaced persons to newly built resettlement houses and reconstructed communities in Borno State.
