NLC SLAMS TINUBU’S BROADCAST: SAYS IT IS DISAPPOINTING.

President Tinubu’s Speech Falls Short of Nigerians’ Expectations, says Labour Leader

In a recent press statement, Comrade Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, has expressed disappointment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent broadcast.
Ajaero stated that the speech did not address the issues that Nigerians are currently facing, and lacked the commitment and action needed to address the nation’s challenges.
The labour leader pointed out several key concerns, including the lack of a concrete plan to revitalize the nation’s public refineries, which have long been dormant.
Ajaero criticized President Tinubu’s failure to reveal those responsible for looting Nigeria’s wealth under the guise of petrol subsidy and emphasized the need for justice and recovery of stolen assets.
Regarding the national minimum wage, Ajaero highlighted the government’s reluctance to negotiate in good faith with Organised Labour and questioned the timing of the wage review, set to happen in 2024.
“The removal of the so-called petrol subsidy has exacerbated the suffering of Nigerian workers due to hyperinflation and economic hardships, making the delayed wage review concerning”. The statement adds
Ajaero also cast doubt on the effectiveness of government interventions, citing past unfulfilled promises of palliatives, loans, and grants to the poor and businesses.
The lack of progress on crucial issues, such as repairing national refineries and holding those responsible for subsidy malpractices accountable, led Ajaero to question the government’s commitment.
In conclusion, Ajaero assured Nigerians that the Nigeria Labour Congress remains dedicated to addressing the realities of suffering faced by citizens.
“The labor union will continue its struggle until the government takes decisive action to improve the lives of Nigerians and alleviate their hardships”.The statement adds.
