PRESIDENTIAL TRIBUNAL: INEC CLOSES CASE IN OBI’S PETITION WITH SINGLE WITNESS

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has closed its defence in the case involving allegations of election rigging in favor of President Bola Tinubu.

INEC counsel, Abubakar Mahmoud, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), said the Commission has closed its case after adopting the written statement of the sole witness, Lawrence Bayode, during the proceedings on Tuesday, July 4.

INEC presented only one witness, Lawrence Bayode, out of the three initially planned.

Bayode, a Deputy Director of ICT at INEC, testified that the results from polling units transmitted via the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) were not relevant to the collation of presidential election results.

He also maintained that the downloaded blurred results from INEC’s website did not affect the physical results recorded at the polling units.

The case involves INEC, President Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The petitioners, Mr. Peter Obi and the Labour Party (LP), seeking a declaration of victory have closed their case on June 23.
