TARABA GOVERNOR BANS ALL MINING ACTIVITIES 

Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has banned all mining activities in the state, both legal and illegal.

The governor made the announcement on June 23, 2023, while signing an executive order prohibiting the activities.

In his speech, Kefas said that the decision was made in the best interests of the state and its future generations.

He cited the environmental damage, exploitation of communities, and crime that have been caused by illegal mining as reasons for the ban.

“We will no longer tolerate the wanton destruction of our natural resources and the exploitation of our people,” Kefas said. “Law enforcement agencies will be empowered to take strict action against anyone found in violation of this order, ” he said.

In addition to the ban, the governor also announced the following:

A comprehensive reforestation program to restore the damage caused by years of unchecked mining.

The provision of alternative employment opportunities for those who were affected by the ban.

The governor urged the federal government and development partners to support the state’s efforts to implement these measures.
