Taraba Governor Moves To Overhaul State Boards and Commissions

In a bid to revamp the state Directorates, Taraba state governor Dr. Agbu Kefas has constitute a nine-man committee to review the activities of boards, commissions and governing council in the state.

The state governor who had dissolve the boards and commissions on June 1 is giving the nine-man committee headed by Taraba state auditor General Mr. Polycarp Iranius 21 days window to investigate the parastatals and submit its findings.

In a statement signed by the Secretary to the Government of Taraba state, Barr. Gebon Kataps identifies the terms of reference in which the committee should align accordingly.

The Statement instructs that the committee is expected to determine the performance of all boards/ commissions and the inflow/outflow of funds, it’s service delivery as it affects the board and commissions in the interest of the state, it’s performance indexes, negative or positive as it affects the various zones and components of the state.

The term further directs the committee to suggest to government on how best to reorganize such board and commissions in order to optimally achieve its set objective in the interest of the state, to also determine if it is necessary to improve or retain the remuneration of members of boards and commissions to achieve maximum performance and also suggest the cost of its funding if any, while proffering any other advice to improve the boards and commissions in the state.

The statement further maintains the committee should investigate and review the performances of the consultants on payroll management of the state to determine if its performance meets the required standard and to advice the government accordingly.

Meanwhile the dissolution does not affect boards and commissions listed on the 1999 Constitution (as amended) which include the State Civil Service Commission, State independent Electoral commission, State Judicial Service Commission, and the State House of Assembly Service Commission.

However, membership of this boards and Commissions are to submit their resume and other relevant documents for vetting”. The statement adds.
