In a strong rebuke, a sociocultural organization Ibom Abek Keed in Akwa Ibom state has called on the Honourable Minister for Petroleum Resources, Ekperikpe Ekpo, to refocus on his primary responsibilities within the gas sector rather than engaging in politically charged rhetoric that threatens to destabilize the peace within the state.

This statement came during a press conference held last week in Uyo, where the group voiced its concerns regarding Ekpo’s recent comments made during a Thanksgiving service celebrating the 37th anniversary of the state.

The organization expressed disappointment in Ekpo’s performance, highlighting his failure to deliver on his mandate of making gas accessible and affordable to all Nigerians. They criticized his tendency to create unnecessary alarm over issues that do not exist, suggesting that his actions indicate a diversion from his duties rather than a commitment to serving the public good.

Furthermore, the group accused the Minister of undermining the unity among both former and current governors of the state. They rejected his claims of escalating conflicts among these leaders, asserting that the reality is a collaborative effort towards progress and development in the region.

Ibom Abek Keed urged Ekpo to cease his divisive comments and instead contribute positively to the state’s growth. They noted the commendable efforts of the Senate President, and former governor of Akwa Ibom state, Senator Godswill Akpabio in fostering development and urged him to disregard Ekpo’s provocations, focusing instead on constructive initiatives for the benefit of the state.

As the Minister’s tenure reaches its one-year mark, the group called attention to the lack of meaningful impact on the state, emphasizing the need for leadership that prioritizes unity and development over political maneuvering.
