Don’t Panic – FG Reassures Taraba residents over low altitude flights

Federal Government set to commence geological survey in Taraba Reassures  Residents Over Low Altitude Flights

Taraba State residents residing in areas designated for low altitude aircraft flights as part of a geological survey conducted by the Federal Government have received reassurances amid concerns.

In a statement issued on Sunday by Ishaku Kigbu, the Media/Communication Officer of the Mineral Sector Support for Economic Diversification Project, the Federal Government urged residents not to panic over this development.

The geological survey exercise, slated to commence this week, is part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to enhance geological information and data accessibility, ultimately supporting economic diversification. Preceding the exercise, comprehensive sensitization has taken place in the state, and the government reiterated that the low-altitude flights of specialized aircraft would persist in a repetitive pattern to capture magnetic anomalies.

The Mineral Sector Support for Economic Diversification Project is providing support for this initiative, which will be conducted in six out of Taraba State’s 16 local government councils.

The affected councils include Ardo Kola, Jalingo, Karim Lamido, Lau, Yorro, and Zing. The Ministry emphasized that residents in these areas should not be alarmed, as the operation is deemed safe.

The Federal Government underscored the importance of this reassurance in light of the nation’s security situation, emphasizing the need to prevent misinformation and ensure public awareness.

The Airborne Geophysical Mapping Survey commenced in June 2021, and though it encountered minor setbacks due to weather conditions and logistical reasons, it has made substantial progress since its initiation.

The statement clarified that the current sensitization effort seeks to further ease concerns among Taraba State’s residents and ensure their peace of mind when encountering the aircraft.

This move is in response to the prevailing security challenges in the country.
