Nigerians Disappointed with NLC Strike Suspension

Nigerians Express Disappointment as NLC and TUC Suspend Planned Strike”

Nigerians find themselves disappointed as the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have suspended indefinitely planned strike.

The strike, which was originally scheduled to commence on Tuesday, was unexpectedly halted following a last-minute meeting with the Federal Government on Monday, October 2, 2023.

In an unexpected twist, the labor unions have opted for a temporary one-month pause of their strike after reaching a 15-point Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the government. Among the agreed points is a plan to disburse N35,000 to civil servants in the near future.

This decision to suspend the strike has triggered dissatisfaction among Nigerians who had anticipated a strong protest against perceived government neglect. Social media, particularly Twitter, has been buzzing with expressions of disappointment.

Kunmi, frustrated by the suspension, commented, “I can never be disappointed. I knew you all lacked the guts to confront the government. The resolutions are damn ridiculous.”

Echoing this sentiment, Joy Okafor remarked, “We don’t have NLC in this Nigeria; they are only representing themselves.”

David Korede urged Nigerians to reduce their reliance on NLC and trade unions, stating, “Until Nigerians stop depending on NLC and trade unions, it will be difficult to make politicians see governance beyond civil service welfare.”

Twitter user Otiti Ode expressed skepticism, saying, “Labor doesn’t favor any person in Nigeria. How sure are we that electricity tariffs have been reduced?”

Derf Sut highlighted growing inequality, stating, “The interests of common citizens no longer matter.”

Nigerians are now questioning the sustainability of the agreement and stressing the importance of its effective implementation. Some suspect economic considerations may have influenced the decision to suspend the strike, while others have criticized the leadership of the NLC.

This situation has left Nigerians dissatisfied and has heightened awareness of ongoing issues related to inequality in the country.
