CAP-A appoints Osinbajo as its new chairman

Agency’s work is shifting narrative from Africa being victim to solution to climate change. – Osinbajo

The Climate Action Platform for Africa (CAP-A), a public benefit organization dedicated to harnessing Africa’s potential in combatting climate change, has announced the appointment of former Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo SAN, GCON, as the new Chairman of its Board of Directors.

This announcement was made via an official statement released by the organization.

CAP-A’s core mission is founded on the understanding that Africa’s unique combination of demographics, economic growth, and abundant natural resources, combined with its notably low current carbon emissions, positions the continent to achieve not only net-zero carbon emissions but also a significant net-negative carbon footprint faster than any other region in the world.

Accepting this appointment, Prof. Osinbajo expressed his commitment to the organization’s mission, stating, “Since the establishment of CAP-A, I have witnessed their efforts in reshaping the global and continental narrative regarding Africa’s role in climate change. They have transitioned Africa from being seen as a victim to being recognized as a pivotal force in advancing global climate action. I am honored to lead the Board of Directors in supporting CAP-A’s initiatives and programs across the continent, with the aim of fostering Africa’s economic development through climate-positive growth.”

James Mwangi, the founder of CAP-A, expressed deep gratitude for Prof. Osinbajo’s willingness to join the organization as Chairman of the Board. Mwangi emphasized Osinbajo’s extensive experience and dedication to aligning African economies with climate-friendly practices, highlighting the importance of this appointment in the wake of the inaugural Africa Climate Summit, which called for accelerated climate action across the continent.

This appointment reflects a significant milestone for CAP-A and signifies Africa’s growing role in the global climate action landscape.
