Group reveals Alleged Plot to Oust Senate President from Office

Citizens Network for Peace and Development Vows to Defend Senate President Akpabio Amidst Impeachment Rumours

In a resolute stance against what they consider a baseless and disruptive rumor, the Citizens Network for Peace and Development (CNPDN) has declared its unwavering support for Senate President Godswill Akpabio, vowing to thwart any purported attempts to impeach him from his position.

Senator Godswill Akpabio, who represents Akwa Ibom north-west, ascended to the role of Senate President after securing 63 votes, triumphing over Abdulaziz Yar of Zamfara central, who managed to garner 43 votes during the election.

In an official statement released on Saturday, Francis Okereke Wainwei, the secretary of CNPDN, expressed the group’s skepticism regarding the alleged impeachment plot, referring to it as a “joke taken too far.” He articulated, “We woke up to a funny story on Saturday morning about a purported plan by some unnamed senators to impeach Akpabio. Such stories can be ignored.”

Wainwei went on to emphasize the principles of democracy, stating, “But because we live in a society where some people take jokes too far, we have to immediately stop them. If you cannot win elections through the ballots, you cannot also take over power through the backdoor.”

The CNPDN secretary showered praise on Akpabio’s accomplishments, asserting, “Akpabio will remain the President of the 10th senate and chairman of the national assembly. No senate president has ever done what Akpabio has done in a few months. If not for mischief, why are they in a hurry to disturb Akpabio? The South-South supported these same people when they were in power.”

He further questioned the motives behind the alleged plot, stating, “Why would they want to sabotage Akpabio who is the highest political office holder from the South-South, which is the economic power of the country?”

In a final plea for unity and stability, Wainwei called upon those allegedly involved in the scheme to desist, saying, “For the sake of peace, we call on those jokers to leave Akpabio alone and allow him to focus on the task of rebuilding Nigeria with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Rebuilding Nigeria is a task for everyone.”

As the nation watches closely, the CNPDN’s fervent support for Senate President Akpabio adds a new layer of intrigue to the evolving political landscape of Nigeria.
