NIS Passport Backlog Directive

FG orders the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to remove all bottleneck in acquisition of immigration documents.

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has received a directive from the Federal Government to swiftly address a backlog of more than 200,000 International Passport applications within a two-week timeframe.

This order was issued by the Minister of interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, during a meeting, attended by key government officials, including the acting Comptroller General (aCG) of Immigration, tasked with overseeing passport booklets.

The Minister emphasized that this directive aligns with his commitment to eliminating bureaucratic hurdles in passport and immigration document processing. He highlighted that prolonged delays in passport issuance have been a major source of frustration for Nigerian citizens, impeding their access to essential travel documents.

During the meeting, Adepoju Carol, the acting Comptroller General (aCG) of Immigration, assured the Minister that the necessary resources and measures would be promptly mobilized to expedite the processing of the outstanding passport applications.

She noted that, despite the nationwide count of over 200,000 applications as of Thursday morning, the agency is diligently working to accelerate the processing of these pending requests.
