Rescued Chibok Girl Desires Reunion with Former Boko Haram Husband, Citing Unbreakable Bond
Mary Nkeki, a 27-year-old Chibok girl recently liberated by Operation Hadin Kai Theatre Command forces in Borno state, has made a heartfelt plea to be reunited with her former Boko Haram husband, identified as Adam.
Nkeki’s rescue took place during a daring operation into a terrorists’ stronghold by the 81 Task Force Battalion at Dikwa.
Maj. Gen. Gold Chibuisi, the Theater Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, disclosed that Nkeki was the 55th girl on the list of abducted Chibok girls. She was discovered to have been forcefully married to Adam during her captivity. Following her successful rescue, Nkeki underwent comprehensive medical evaluations at a military medical facility and received the necessary care to ensure her recovery. Plans have been made to transfer her to the Borno state authorities for further assistance and support.
In a conversation with journalists after her handover to the Borno State Ministry for Women Affairs officials, Nkeki revealed that she had given birth to two daughters while in captivity, and Adam was the father.
When asked about her future plans, Nkeki made an unexpected declaration, saying, “I already have a husband. I am married to Adam. We fled from captivity together.”
Nkeki recounted that she and Adam chose to leave behind their involvement with insurgency, fleeing the terrorists’ enclave at the Dikwa axis. They embarked on a journey to regain their freedom, which eventually led to their joint rescue by Operation Hadin Kai forces. Regrettably, the couple was separated upon their liberation. Reports suggest that Adam was taken to a camp for repentant insurgents.
Mary Nkeki’s case marks the 16th successful rescue of girls by troops in recent months, underscoring ongoing efforts to bring back those who were abducted by the terrorists. Her yearning for reunion with her former husband, Adam, illustrates the complex emotional connections formed under the direst circumstances, shedding light on the depths of their shared experience and bond.
